Orlando (Lundo- O.J.) Abbadini
Retired Supervisory MSHA Employee

Orlando J. Abbadini, 90 of Fredericktown, PA (Richeyville Area) died Sunday, July 20, 2014 in the Washington Hospital.
He joins his wife of 66 years Ann DellaRocili, who passed away August 9, 2010. 
Mr. Abbadini was born April 28, 1924 in Vestaburg, PA a son of the late Joseph and Rita Rettini Abbadini.
He was a 1942 graduate of East Bethlehem High School and attended W & J College, Washington, PA.
In February of 1943 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in January of 1946. He was a member of the Army’s famous “Island Hopping” Amphibian Engineers. He served in New Guinea, Northern Solomon’s Luzon, Philippines, and was among the first troops to land in Japan after the Peace Treaty. For his service he was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Arrowhead and the WWII Victory Medal. 
Mr. Abbadini was a life member of the Hanson-Cole American Legion Post #391, Fredericktown and was a charter member of the former Vestaburg Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a life member of St. Michael’s Archangel Church, now the St. Oliver Plunkett Parish of Fredericktown, PA. He served as a Trustee and former President of the Holy Name Society for 75 years. Mr. Abbadini was also a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5826, Bentleyville, PA and a 4th degree member of Assembly #911 Knights of Columbus. 
Mr. Abbadini was also a member of the Elks Lodge #494 of Charleroi, PA and the Sons of Italy, Brownsville, PA.
Lundo, along with his brothers, Jerry and Robert, founded and operated the Abbadini Restaurant and Bar, Bentleyville, PA for 28 years. 
He served as an Umpire in Washington County for ten years and he is the last of the Umpires who worked the first Pony League World Series in Washington, PA. 
Mr. Abbadini worked for a Washington County Legislator in Harrisburg during the 1960’s. His assignment and adventurous spirit took him to St. Croix in the Virgin Islands where he and his partners built and operated the first and only roller skating rink and dance hall, the Princess, for two years.
Mr. Abbadini was a retired Federal Coal Mine Inspector and Supervisor with 20 years of Service.


Gardening and sports including football, baseball, swimming, lacrosse and basketball, brought him special enjoyment. He never missed a Steeler or Pirate Game. He enjoyed telling stories of his life and was particularly proud of his heritage. Winemaking was another of his interests. 
Surviving are three children; Pat Cook (Dave) of Chicago, IL, Bernie Pagac (Fred) of Buffalo, NY and Mark Abbadini (Kathy) of Richeyville, PA; six grandchildren, Kristyn Turner (Jim), Karrie Crocker (Chris), Kelly Cook , Jennifer Wieden (Adam), Freddie Pagac (Stephanie) and Aaron Abbadini; six great grandchildren, Isabel, Alessandra and A. J. Wieden, Cydney Crocker and Landon and Bradyn Pagac; brother-in-law, Tom Dellirocili (Jeannette) of Brownsville, PA and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased in addition to his parents and wife are two brothers, Jerry and Robert Abbadini.

Friends will be received Wednesday from 1 to 9 P.M. in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, PA where a blessing service will be held Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 10:45 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 A.M. in the St. Oliver Plunkett Parish, Fredericktown, PA with Rev. Paul Grunebach as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Beallsville Cemetery, Beallsville, PA. Military rites will be accorded by the Hanson Cole American Legion Post #391, Fredericktown. A Knights of Columbus Service will be held at 7:00 P.M., Wednesday in the funeral home followed at 7:30 P.M. by a Parish Vigil Service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. Oliver Plunkett Parish, P.O. Box 638, Fredericktown, PA 15333.
